FAQs

How much does Journey cost?

You will need to support-raise $6,450.00. This covers travel from Atlanta, GA to East Africa and back, as well as the entirety of your transportation, food, lodgings, and curriculum materials that will be used during training, debrief, and in East Africa.

How do I support-raise?

Support raising can be an intimidating task, but our staff will provide you with suggestions and support along the way!

How mature of a Christian do I need to be?

Journey is open to students in any stage of their faith. Whether or not you are new to your relationship with Jesus, or have been His follower for years, Journey is for you! We don’t assume where in their faith interns will be and tailor our curriculum in a way that we believe will have an impact on everyone. As long as you have a heart for the nations and for discipleship, you are welcome on Journey!

What will I be doing while I'm in Africa?

Each summer is unique depending on circumstances and the team that God has put together for that year. While you are in Africa you will be spending time investing in the lives of those in East Africa. This could include visiting churches and homes, assisting our volunteers with Rejoice Project camps, and assisting the community in other various ways. While in East Africa you will also be learning from our staff and diving deep into God’s Word. You will find a good balance of serving and being discipled.

I know I want to pursue missions full-time. How will Journey prepare me for that?

We begin with training and team building in Atlanta, getting our hearts prepared, diving deep into relationship with the team, and studying the origins of “missions” in God’s word. Your time on Journey will expose you to city and rural settings in East Africa, providing you with a rich and diverse missions experience and opening the doors for future opportunities to serve.

Will I have phone and/or internet access?

It is possible to get signal in the communities we serve, however, we ask that everyone take this unique opportunity to disconnect from technology and be present with the amazing people we have the gift of serving.

Is it safe?

Much like traveling in and out of major cities in the U.S., it is important to be aware of your surroundings in East Africa and to follow the guidelines we lay out for you during training. We take safety seriously, both for our team members and those we are serving. Our rule of thumb is to sacrifice itinerary over safety.

What if I am a college athlete or musician on scholarship that needs to practice during the summer?

We love encouraging Journey students to use their gifts and talents for God’s glory! Let us know during your application process what special requirements your school may have for you in order to participate and we will work with you to make accommodations.
